Author Resolutions--Stan Nicholls
From Stan Nicholls author of the Dreamtime trilogy:
Here are my (not entirely to be taken seriously) resolutions for 2008:
* I’ll try to remember good reviews and forget the bad.
* I’ll get over my fear of unconscious plagiarism/innate criticism/envy in order to read more fiction by other fantasy authors.
* I’ll ignore the lingering twitches of the tobacco demon.
* I’ll refrain from attacking adults who ride bicycles on pavements. (It’s an English thing - trust me.)
* I’ll do my best not to ridicule people who litter their conversation with the words “actually” (as in ‘I actually went over there and spoke to him.’ As opposed to doing it in virtual reality, presumably); and “literally” (as in ‘I was literally walking on air.’ No you weren’t. Don’t be silly.)
* I’ll continue to be irritated by populist historians who talk about the past as though it was happening now (as in ‘It’s 3.15 and Napoleon is leading his army onto the field at Waterloo.’ No he isn’t. He’s dead.) If they can’t get the tense right, why should I believe anything else they say?
* I’ll try to be more tolerant of people who pay vanity presses to publish their work and persist in calling themselves “writers”.
* I’ll cut down my internet use to no more than four hours a day. Or thereabouts.
* I’ll uninstall Solitaire.
More author resolutions are on the way....
I have got to read one of your books (literally ).
Good luck with the tobacco demon. I'm completely with you on that one.
