We've just gotten a very nice surprise email from a reader of a galley of THE NEW SPACE OPERA, edited by Gardner Dozois and Jonathan Strahan--Thanks Rob!--and so we wanted to share:
-------------------------
This is a bit strange to just mail someone out of the blue, but I just finished The New Space Opera and it was simply amazing. The stories were fantastic, and the authors were all people I was dying to see new work from (usually after reading their stories in "Year's Best"). Additionally, this collection has given me about half a dozen new series I want to read after seeing a story was set inside an universe I found fascinating, "Merlin's Gun", "Metaplanetary", and Baxter's "Xeelee"series all immediately come to mind books I must read. As for individual stories, "The Emperor and the Muala" and "The Muse of Fire" stand out as my favorites. The entire time I was reading them, I found myself going noticably slower than usual, as I didn't want them to end. And on a different note, I'd like to point out that the cover design is excellent, and the quote from Card is exactly the thing that will make someone examine the book more closely. I had to let someone know how much I loved this book, and none of my friends read sci-fi :( Rob
